American Society for Legal History Offers New Book Prize
Nomination deadline June 30, 2006
The American Society for Legal History, an affiliate of the American Historical Association, announces a new annual book prize, named for renowned legal historian and long-time ASLH member John Phillip Reid. The John Phillip Reid Book Prize, which will be awarded for the first time in 2006, will recognize an outstanding book published in the prior calendar year in any field of legal history. The prize will include a $1,500 stipend, and is designed to recognize excellence in scholarship in this growing field. The winning monograph will be chosen by an ASLH committee specially selected to administer the prize, and will be announced at the society’s annual meeting each year.
Nominations for the first John Phillip Reid Book Prize competition should be submitted by June 30, 2006, via e-mail, to the secretary-treasurer of the American Society for Legal History, William P. LaPiana, the Rita and Joseph Solomon Professor of Wills, Trusts, and Estates at the New York Law School, whose e-mail address is wlapiana@nyls.edu.
In addition, a copy of the book should be mailed to each of the following four individuals:
