Sixteenth Annual World History Association Conference

The World History Association will celebrate its 25th Anniversary at its 16th Annual Conference in downtown Milwaukee, 28 June–1 July 2007. The conference theme is "Expanding Horizons, Collapsing Frontiers: The Macro and Micro in World History."

Jointly sponsored by the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and Marquette University, the conference will be held at UWM's downtown Conference Center. Registration begins on Thursday afternoon, 28 June, with an opening reception sponsored by ABC-Clio, and sessions run from Friday morning through early Sunday afternoon. Commencing Thursday evening, there will be exhibitions by publishers and others connected with world history studies.

Located 6 blocks from Lake Michigan and the Milwaukee Art Museum and 9 blocks from the grounds of Summerfest, the World's Largest Music Festival, which will be in full swing during the conference, this venue will afford conferees easy access to the many fine restaurants and cultural activities available in one of the USA's most exciting cities. Low-cost public transportation is available throughout the downtown area.

Conference special events include, but are not limited to, a reception, tour, and special exhibit of the American Geographical Society Library, University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee, on Friday afternoon and a reception and special exhibit at the Haggarty Museum of Art, Marquette University, on Saturday. A docent-led orientation of the Milwaukee Art Museum and its Calatrava addition will be offered (for a reduced fee of $8) on Thursday at 6:30 PM evening and Sunday at 1:30 PM. Moreover all conferees are offered a reduced entrance fee to MAM (with a conference badge) throughout the weekend. Tickets for the special docent-led tours must be purchased in advance with conference registration.

Discounted admission prices for conferees at other cultural venues have also been negotiated.

In addition to the three conference receptions, daily continental breakfasts and refreshment breaks are included in the conference fee, and a Saturday BBQ luncheon will be hosted by Houghton Mifflin, Inc.

The Hyatt Regency Hotel, a four-star plus hotel located one block from the conference site, offers rooms at $112 for a single or a double, $132 for a triple, $152 for a quad.

The Strasz Tower, a former YMCA now run by Marquette University as a residence hall. Located 7 blocks from the conference site, its rates are $43 for a single, $58 for a double, $69 for a triple, and $75 for a quad. Rooms are air-conditioned and have private bathrooms.
