Juliana Barr is associate professor and University of Florida Research Foundation Professor at the University of Florida. Her first book, Peace Came in the Form of a Woman: Indians and Spaniards in the Texas Borderlands (Univ. of North Carolina Press, 2007) was the recipient of six book awards. Her research and teaching fields focus on early America, American Indians, and women, especially in terms of the role of Indian women in native diplomacy, Indian enslavement, intersections of European colonialism and indigenous sovereignty, and regional, continental, and hemispheric models for understanding the history of early America. In addition to participation in the AHA’s Tuning in History Project, she is currently serving on the College Board AP US History Curriculum Development and Assessment Committee.
