Event Description
The American Historical Association (AHA) will host a Congressional Briefing offering historical perspectives on how the United States House of Representatives has changed since its creation. The briefing will take place on Wednesday, January 29, at 9:00 a.m. ET in Rayburn House Office Building Room 2075.
Panelists Kathryn Cramer Brownell (Purdue Univ.), Matthew Green (Catholic Univ.), and Rachel Shelden (Pennsylvania State Univ.) will discuss how the structure, membership, and culture of the House of Representatives has changed over time. A breakfast spread and coffee will be served.
The AHA’s Congressional Briefings series seeks to provide Congressional staff members, journalists, and other members of the policy community with the historical context essential to understanding contemporary issues. The sessions are strictly nonpartisan and avoid advancing particular policy prescriptions or legislative agendas.
The AHA is grateful to Jared Brubaker and the Center for American Political History and Technology (CAPT) at Purdue University for their support of this briefing.
