AHA executive director James Grossman will join AHA member Martha A. Sandweiss (Princeton Univ.) in a conversation about her new book, The Girl in the Middle: A Recovered History of the American West, on Saturday, May 17, at the Connecticut Avenue location of Politics & Prose in Washington, DC. The Girl in the Middle examines Reconstruction and westward expansion though the lens of a single photograph of six federal peace commissioners with an unidentified young Native American girl taken at Fort Laramie in 1868.
