1989 Annual Meeting Last Minute News

AHA Staff | Dec 1, 1989

The 1989 AHA annual meeting will be held at the San Francisco Hilton, located at One Hilton Square from December 27–30. The three hotels (the Hilton, the Westin St. Francis, and the Galleria Park) are taking late reservations on a space available basis. Housing forms were included in the September Perspectives but may also be obtained by writing the AHA, 400 A Street SE, Washington, DC 20003. All changes should be made directly with the hotel—the telephone number will appear on your housing acknowledgement from the Housing Bureau. Cancellations should be made directly with the Housing Bureau in writing up to fifteen days prior to the meeting; within the last fifteen days, cancel directly with the hotel. AFTER DECEMBER 15 ONLY, reservations can be made through the AHA Housing Bureau in San Francisco by calling 415/974-6900, asking for the Housing Bureau and noting you are attending the AHA annual meeting.

For airline reservations, contact American Airlines at 1-800-433-1790 and ask for Star File number 06D9BD, or Delta Air Lines at 1-800-221-2786, extension 569. Transportation to the hotels from the airport is provided by SFO Airporter every 20 minutes for $5.00 one way or $8.00 round trip. Passenger pick-up is located immediately outside the baggage claim areas at the airport.

We regret to inform the membership that session 3, "Roy Medvedev and New Perspectives on Stalinism" has been cancelled. Dr. Medvedev was unable to obtain the necessary leave to attend the session.

As all authors know, glitches can and do occur in the technical production of a publication. This has happened in this year's Program in one instance that we would like to note to the membership. Unfortunately, two incorrect days of the week were noted in the listings under the Society for Italian Historical Studies on page 22 of the Program. Although the dates are correctly noted, the days of the week are not. Session 42, a joint session with the AHA and the SIHS, will be held on Thursday, December 28, from 2:30–4:30 p.m. in the Sonoma Room of the Hilton. The session, "Dimensions of Gender in Italian Renaissance Cities," will be chaired by president-elect David Herlihy, Brown University, with papers delivered by Susannah Foster Baxendale, University of Florida; Stanley Chojnacki, Michigan State University; and Margery A. Ganz, Spelman College. Comment will be provided by Ronald F.E. Weissman, Brown University.

The SIHS will offer two sessions on Friday, December 29. "Religion in Medieval Italian Cities" will be held from 9:30–11:30 a.m. in the Van Ness Room of the Hilton. It will be chaired by William M. Bowsky, University of California, Davis, and will feature presentations by Maureen C. Miller, Hamilton College; George Dameron, Saint Michael's College; and Mary Louise Kenefick, University of California, Berkeley. "The French Revolution: The View from Italy" will be held in the Diablo Room of the Hilton from 2:30–4:30 p.m. Chaired by Alan J. Reinerman, Boston College, papers will be delivered by Alexander Grab, University of Maine, Orono; Emiliana P. Noether, University of Connecticut; and Charles F. Delzell, Vanderbilt University. Clara M. Lovett, George Mason University, will comment.

The Society's business meeting will be held at 5:00 p.m. on the 29th in the Hilton's Anza Room followed by a social hour in the same room.
